5 Things That Could Be Blocking Your Rizq

Rizq in Islam

Assalamu alaikum dear brothers and sisters ✨,

When our provision feels tight or uncertain, we often look at surface - level reasons — job struggles, rising costs, missed chances. But rizq (sustenance) in Islam isn’t just a material issue — it’s deeply spiritual.

Allah ﷻ is Ar-Razzaq, the Provider. He gives to whom He wills, in the amount He wills, and at the time He wills. Sometimes, what’s blocking our blessings isn’t "out there" — it’s within.

Let’s explore five key spiritual reasons why your rizq may feel restricted — and how to reconnect with barakah.

1. Engaging in Haram Sources of Income

When money comes through impermissible means — like riba (interest), fraud, or unethical business — barakah is stripped away, even if the numbers look good on paper.

You might see increase, but you won’t feel it. Peace disappears. Expenses seem endless. And your heart becomes restless.

"Whoever returns [to dealing in usury] — those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein."
[2:275]

Choose halal earnings. It’s not just about provision — it’s about preserving your soul.

2. Misunderstanding True Wealth

We live in a culture of hustle and comparison. But Islam teaches us: real wealth isn’t in what’s stored — it’s in what’s felt.

"Wealth is not having many possessions, but rather wealth is contentment of the soul."
[Sahih al-Bukhari, 6446]

Rizq includes things money can’t buy: peace of mind, a loving family, health, and moments of joy. Don’t chase numbers — seek contentment.

3. Prioritising the Dunya Over the Akhirah

When our hearts are consumed by worldly success, we begin to think our provision comes from effort alone. But Islam shifts that mindset: rizq comes from the heavens, not the earth.

"And in the heaven is your rizq and whatever you are promised."
[51:22]

Balance your efforts with sincere tawakkul. Make time for your salah, your Qur’an, your connection to Allah ﷻ — and watch how He opens doors for you.

4. Being Ungrateful and Always Complaining

Barakah flows to those who say Alhamdulillah. When we complain more than we praise, we close the door to increase. Gratitude shifts not just your mood — but your outcome.

"If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny [My favors], indeed, My punishment is severe."
[14:7]

Even when things are hard, look for the good. A heart full of shukr is a magnet for rizq.

5. Persisting in Sin and Disobedience

Your rizq isn’t just tied to your CV — it’s tied to your taqwa. Persistent sins can block the blessings meant for you. They weigh heavy on the soul and create spiritual distance between you and the Provider.

"A person may be deprived of sustenance due to a sin that he commits."
[Sunan Ibn Majah, 4022]

Turn back to Allah ﷻ. Make sincere tawbah. Even a quiet, whispered repentance can unlock mercy and open the gates of provision.

Your Rizq Comes From the One Above

Your sustenance isn’t in the hands of a manager, a market, or a moment — it’s in the hands of Ar-Razzaq. He already wrote what’s yours, and no one can take it away.

If your rizq feels blocked, don’t just hustle harder — reflect deeper. Cleanse your earnings, purify your heart, and reconnect with your Lord.

May Allah ﷻ expand your rizq, purify your income, and shower your life with halal barakah — materially, emotionally, and spiritually. Ameen.
