Assalamu alaikum dear brothers and sisters :sparkles:,
Nikah is such a beautiful and special gift in Islam, alhamdulillah. It’s often said that marriage completes half of our deen, and for good reason! But we know that for many, the thought of getting married can feel overwhelming. Whether it’s worries about finances, societal expectations, or personal goals, there’s a lot to think about. But if we look to the Qur’an and Sunnah, we see that nikah is meant to be simple, easy, and full of blessings.
Simplicity in Marriage: A Blessing from Allah ﷻ
In today’s world, there’s a common belief that marriage requires a big budget, extravagant celebrations, and endless preparations. But our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ showed us something beautiful: the best marriages are often the simplest ones. He said:
“The most blessed marriage is the one with the least expenses.”
[Ibn Hibban, 9/337]
Islam teaches us to focus on what really matters—love, support, and faith. A strong marriage isn’t about how much money is spent; it’s about the bond and commitment between the spouses.
Trusting Allah ﷻ with Our Financial Worries
It’s natural to worry about finances when thinking about marriage. Many of us feel like we need to be financially “set” before considering nikah. But Allah ﷻ reminds us in the Qur’an:
“And marry those among you who are single and those who are fit among your male slaves and female slaves. If they are poor, Allah will enrich them from His bounty. And Allah is Ample-giving, Knowing.”
[24:32]
This beautiful verse reminds us that sustenance comes from Allah ﷻ alone. When we trust in Him and approach marriage with sincerity, He will provide in ways we can’t even imagine.
Marriage: A Journey of Growth Together
A lot of young Muslims delay marriage, thinking that it might get in the way of their studies, careers, or personal growth. But in reality, marriage is a partnership that can help us grow! A good spouse is someone who supports and strengthens us, making our journey in this world smoother and more fulfilling.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“The best of you are those who are best to their wives.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 9, Hadith 1977]
Marriage allows us to balance our personal goals with emotional stability and spiritual growth. With the right partner, we can create an environment where both spouses thrive and flourish together.
Breaking Free from Cultural Expectations
In many cultures today, there’s pressure to have lavish weddings, expensive dowries, and grand celebrations. But Islam encourages us to keep things simple and focus on the barakah (blessings) that come from a sincere and modest nikah.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The most blessed marriage is the one with the least expenses.”
[Ibn Hibban, 9/337]
By following the example of the Prophet ﷺ, we can avoid unnecessary financial stress and focus on what truly matters: building a strong, loving partnership that is blessed by Allah ﷻ.
Nikah: A Source of Blessing, Not a Burden
Some people worry that marriage will limit their freedom or that they need to “experience life” before settling down. But in Islam, marriage is a blessing, not a burden. It brings love, companionship, and shared experiences that make life even more meaningful and beautiful.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“The best of you are those who are best to their families, and I am the best among you to my family.”
[Sunan Ibn Majah, Book 9, Hadith 1977]
Marriage isn’t about giving up freedom; it’s about growing together, supporting one another, and creating a fulfilling life full of love and growth.
Conclusion: Embracing the Simplicity of Nikah
Nikah isn’t meant to be overwhelming or complicated. Islam encourages us to approach marriage with sincerity, trust in Allah ﷻ, and simplicity. By following the guidance of the Qur’an and Sunnah, we open the door to a marriage filled with peace, love, and blessings.
Let’s free ourselves from the pressures of society and embrace the ease that Islam has given us. May Allah ﷻ bless everyone seeking marriage with righteous spouses who bring peace, joy, and success into their lives, in sha Allah. Ameen.
