Assalamu alaikum dear brothers and sisters ✨,
Ramadan isn’t just a month of fasting. It is a month where Allah ﷻ opens the doors of Paradise, multiplies rewards, and softens the hearts of His servants. But true preparation for Ramadan does not begin on the first night. It begins long before it arrives.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“When Ramadan begins, the gates of Paradise are opened, the gates of Hellfire are closed, and the devils are chained.”
[Bukhari, 1899]
If this is how honoured Ramadan is, imagine the blessing of entering it with a clean heart, good habits, and sincere intentions.
Do not wait for the crescent to be sighted. Start preparing now.
Why Prepare Before Ramadan
Many people wait until the first day of fasting to change their habits, but Ramadan becomes much easier when the heart is already softened and the soul is already disciplined.
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“The most beloved deeds to Allah are those that are consistent, even if they are small.”
[Bukhari, 6464]
You do not need to make huge changes overnight. Start small and stay consistent. When Ramadan arrives, you will enter it with a heart that is lighter, calmer, and ready for real spiritual growth.
5 Habits to Leave Behind Before Ramadan
Here are five habits that weigh down the heart and are much easier to break before Ramadan begins.
1. Wasting Time on Social Media
Scrolling for hours weakens focus, lowers iman, and steals time that could be used for Qur’an, reflection, or presence with family. Begin limiting your time now so your heart enters Ramadan with clarity.
2. Missing Prayers or Praying Late
Ramadan is about discipline, and salah is the foundation of that discipline. If prayers are inconsistent now, fasting will feel heavier later. Strengthen your prayer routine this week and build momentum before Ramadan starts.
3. Backbiting and Gossip
These sins poison the heart and erase good deeds. Purifying the tongue is one of the most important parts of preparing the soul. Start practising silence, charity in speech, and restraint.
4. Overspending and Wasting Money
Ramadan is a month of generosity, but also a month of moderation. Begin practising better spending habits now so your heart becomes used to balance and gratitude.
5. Overeating and Unhealthy Habits
If you reduce cravings before Ramadan, fasting becomes peaceful rather than painful. Sleep earlier, hydrate more, and cut down gradually. Prepare your body as you prepare your heart.
Allah ﷻ says:
“And during the night, pray Tahajjud. It is expected that your Lord will raise you to a praised station.”
[17:79]
Even a small increase in Qur’an or prayer, or a small step away from sin, brings the heart closer to Allah ﷻ.
Final Reminder
Ramadan is a gift. A doorway. A chance to reset your entire life. But the people who benefit the most from it are those who prepare early.
Start today. Start small. Start for Allah’s ﷻ sake.
Enter Ramadan with a heart that is already turning back to Him.
🤍 May Allah ﷻ purify our hearts, strengthen our habits, and allow us to reach Ramadan in good health and strong iman. Ameen.
